Howdy!
I know, It’s been a while.
I’ve been looking through some photos albums and i guess i lost track of time.
I have some pictures i want to show you, so pull up a seat and lets have a look.

A good buck Near Bend Oregon
One of my favorite things to do is take pictures of wildlife, and my favorite subject is the mule deer. When I go fishing and hiking i’m always on the lookout for wildlife of all kinds. For some reason when i spot a deer i always want to linger and watch. I usually have a camera handy so i take some pictures if i can.

Mulie does
While mule deer numbers are not what they were when i was a kid, they are still common in Central Oregon and most of the western states.
The diverse landscape of central Oregon provides habitat for mule deer as well as Pronghorn antelope, elk, bighorn sheep and even a few blacktail deer on the very edge of the Cascade mountains.

habitat being "developed"
Due to encroachment by humans and numerous other factors mule deer numbers are in decline. Groups like Oregon Hunters Association and the Mule deer foundation work diligently to enhance and protect habitat to ensure the survival of the mule deer, blacktail deer and a host of other huntable and non game animals.

- from my bedroom window
I have done many hours of volunteer work for the conservation of deer and elk, and i thoroughly enjoy doing my part to ensure the survival of all wildlife.

They’re beautiful creatures!

Don,
I remember those days of hunting deer with a bow. I’d love to get out there and do some bow hunting with you.
I’m sure Christian has a great meal plan built around wild game.

I hope not too much of the mule deer’s habitat is being developed. It would be a shame to loose these agile creatures.

Pam in 2002 i lived in Oregon and the population of Bend was 52K. now it’s over 100k in 7 years. the sprawl is taking it’s toll on habitat and the wildlife that need it to survive.

What beautiful animals indeed. The Mule Does, their lil tushes are VERY cute. (Deer Butt) Almost like we could go pet them.
Thank you both for sharing these beautiful inspiring photographs from Central Oregon with us and for the Conservation work you have done and do to ensure their longevity.

John hunting for the shed antlers has become a cottage industry. i will “shed ” some light on it in a future post.

They are so incredibly beautiful! We have white tail deer here. I love to see them in the yard. I actually wanted an apple tree for mother’s day to attract them. (didn’t get one of course) they used to come around a lot more before we had the dog. The downside to having them around is that they eat all the flowers and shrubs and they carry deer ticks which carry Lyme’s Disease. I know several people who’ve gotten it.

Don,
My family and I occasionally see deer in our backyard or in the yard of a neighbor. They are beautiful animals, and always a treat to see. Looks like you are living among lots of deer there in Central Oregon. Great pictures.
